Certified Advanced Bike Fit Technician and a USA Cycling Level II Coach
Kurt Begemann was born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa and started riding bicycles to school at the age of 7. He started racing BMX at the age of 12 and the same year won his first National Championship.
Eight years later after switching to the Road, he would win his second National Championship, and help secure a podium spot at the All Africa Games with a Bronze Medal in the 100 Kilometer Team Time Trial. Begemann represented his country on 10 separate occasions, captaining the team five times. He has raced all four disciplines (Road, Track, Mountain Bike and Cyclocross) at the Elite and International level, and in 2008 after becoming a US Citizen, won his third National Championship, this time on the track, at the US National Tandem Sprint Championships.
Kurt began coaching privately in 1998 and in 2004 formed his own company coaching several athletes to State, National and World Championships. In 2005 he took over the Directorship of the Asheville Mellowdrome Track Program in Asheville, North Carolina and quickly became one of the Nations leading coaches/promoters in Grass Roots Track Development. In the Spring of 2008 he took on the role as lead coach of the USA Cycling Track Training Center in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania working alongside former World Champions Gibby Hatton and Marty Nothstein.
